Internet Safety Message
Because this website is a tool for my students to use for their learning and educational benefit, I would like to make sure that I advise the students to use the internet as a responsible tool. I would like to remind my students that the internet can be a fantastic tool for learning and for gaining resources, but that there are also plenty of dangerous aspects of the internet. When the students use my website I can promise you parents that you can feel rest-assured that they will be safe here and that my website is only designed to help the students expand their learning.
So many aspects of the internet can be just pain dangerous. One of which is posting of personal information. Posting things like one's name, address, phone numbers or SSN on any social media or other website can have very negative possible consequences. Identity theft is a very common crime in the United States, and it is very easy for people to use only a small amount of your information to take money from you. Another incredibly heinous and dangerous aspect of the internet are sexual predators on social media sites. There are plenty of dangerous minded individuals that use the internets social avenues to target young and even underage high school students. Preventing things like this from happening can be as easy as not posting your address on any public site. Its better to always be safe than sorry. Another danger from the internet (and perhaps the most common of them) is internet viruses that can delete many of your computers information as well as take money and information from your personal accounts (which can lead to identity theft). Please make sure that you scan your computer as often as you can and not to install or download anything that you are unclear about.
The internet can be an incredibly useful and fantastic medium for learning, and I just want to make sure that my students understand how to be safe. There are so many site such as YouTube, PhysicsClassroom, and even Wikipedia that can help my students understand some aspects of my physics and chemistry classes.
